Changing Sounds
An animation which sets a series of tests performed with a guitar, a drum and a bottle. Conditions are changed to notice the changes in pitch of the sound. The second activity is sorting instruments into categories. Finally, there is a 10 question quiz.
Fun Farm Sounds
An activity about listening than sound. Learners click on an animal to hear it's sound.
How far is it away?
2 activities one which deals with the distance between a lightening flash and thunder in air. Another dealing with distance between a submarine sonar and the sea floor in water.
Loudness Questions
A series of questions which test a learner's understanding of the science.
Diffraction 1
A simple diagram showing why you can hear but not see round corners.
Get an Earful
An activity of matching sounds with objects, jobs and sports.
Light Designer
An activity linking sound and light as learners 'mix' light and sound together as a DJ.
Pitch Questions
A series of questions which test a learner's understanding of the science.
Diffraction 2
A simple animation showing how sound waves shorten depending upon the gap they are travelling through.
How do we hear?
An interactive animation explaining why bottles filled with different amounts of liquid give off different sounds when struck.
Ocean Odyssey Game
A game which incorporates the 'Sources of Sound Module'. Learners have to complete a series of tasks so that Mel the Mermaid can get her voice back.
Sound Test
A 10 question test marked online covering sound, pitch and loudness.
Doppler Game
A simple animation showing the doppler effect as a sound source moves past the sound receiver.
In the House
An activity of identifying house rooms with sounds and sights.
Recording Studio
A site suitable for those more able and/or technical who want to understand the science behind recording sound waves.
Sources of Sound Question
A series of questions which test learner's understanding of the science.
Drag a Soundwave
By dragging a slider the frequency of the sound waves change. Learners can see this visually and hear it at the same time.
Loudness Module
An excellent explanation of loudness, quietness and amplitude. Learners have to complete a series of tasks as they understand the science.
Sound and Hearing
An animation which sets a series of tests performed with a guitar, a drum and a recorder. Conditions are changed to notice the changes in pitch of the sound. The second activity learners have to sort instruments into categories. Finally, a 10 question quiz

Echoes 1
A simple animation showing how echoes occur.
Pitch Module
An excellent explanation of pitch, frequency and amplitude. Learners have to complete a series of tasks as they understand the science.
Sources of Sound Application
3 sets of slides on 'Sources of Sound', 'Loudness' and 'Pitch'. Each considers how these aspects of sound are used in the world.

Echoes 2
A simple diagram showing uses of echoes.
Soft and Loud Noises
An activity where learners choose the correct sound description goes with which picture.

How a Loudspeaker Works
A short video clip showing the vibration of 'sound'.
Sorting Instrument Sounds
A 'drag and drop' sorting activity where learners have to sort a variety of instruments into the four sections of blow, pluck, bang and shake. By clicking learners will hear it being played.

How do we hear?
A series of animated slides explaining how we hear high and low sounds.
Sources of Sound Module
An excellent explanation of how we hear sound. Learners have to complete a series of tasks as they understand the science.

Light and Sound
From the drop-down list on the right hand side. A short video clip explains the similarities and differences of sound and light waves. A simple experiment shows sound waves travelling.
The Bat Sound
The first part shows how bats use sound to 'see'. The second activity involves moving a bat around the screen to avoid the cave walls.

Lightening Strike
An activity which shows the delay between lightning and the sound of thunder.

Refraction
A simple animation showing why sound is louder at night.

Sound and Hearing
An animation which sets a series of tests performed with a guitar, a drum and a recorder. Conditions are changed to notice the changes in pitch of the sound. The second activity learners have to sort instruments into categories. Finally, a 10 question quiz

Virtual Sound Sequencer
A site more suited for music but may have some 'sound' use here.

  Identifying Sounds
A drag and drop activity where learners match the correct label to each of the sounds.

  Sorting Instrument Sounds
Learners drag and drop each of the instruments into the correct quadrant as to how the sound was made.
