Change It Five items are placed in an oven and heated. Learners are asked to observe what happened. Five other items are placed in a freezer and cooled. Learners are asked to observe what happened. |
Changing State An animation with a number of tasks to perform. Water being heated and cooled and what happens at each stage. This is followed by a simple quiz to test the understanding of the concept learned. |
Melting and Boiling An excellent activity in which learners have to select 3 substances, in turn, which are heated until boiling point. Learners have to observe temperature rise and read graphs to input these. The readings have to be precise. |
Changing Materials Quiz A 10 question quiz testing the understanding of reversible and irreversible changes. |
Gases Around Us
1 An animation with a number of tasks to perform. A liquid being heated and cooled and what happens at each stage. This is followed by a simple solid, liquid and gas sorting activity and a quiz to test the understanding of the concept learned. |
Changing State Diagram An excellent 'drag and drop' activity where learners have to label the process by which ice turns to water and then steam. |
Changing State Quiz An animation with a number of tasks to perform. Water being heated and cooled and what happens at each stage. Followed by a quiz to test the understanding of the concept learned. |
Gas Liquid Solid Revision A series of screens covering all aspects of this part of the curriculum. |
Gas Liquid Solid Activity A drag and drop activity placing items into the correct category. |
Gas Liquid Solid Quiz A 10 question interactive quiz marked online. |
Hot & Cold
Testing Time A virtual experiment in which learners heat lipstick until it melts. It is then placed into a fridge and becomes solid but not in the same shape. |
Hotter or Colder Learners have to decide about temperatures in a freezer. |
Gases Around Us An animation with a number of tasks to perform. Water being heated and cooled and what happens at each stage. An activity of deciding whether something is a gas, a liquid or a solid follows. Finally, a simple quiz to test the understanding of the concept. |
How do aerosols
work? An excellent interactive animation which explains what happens in an aerosol can. |
Non/Reversible Changes Learners are asked to observe what happens when a number of substances are added to water and how many of these changes are reversible. A quiz tests understanding of this topic. |
Materials Quiz A simple 10 question quiz identifying liquids, gases and solids marked online. |
Investigating Air A strange site with no instructions but may provide a visual guide for learners when working on 'air'. |
Solid
liquid and gases A 'drag and drop' activity sorting items into three groups. |
Properties Liquids & Solids A quiz marked online. |
Solid, liquid and gas An animation showing particles in a substance at the varying stages as temperature increases. |
Solid liquid
gas Testing A 'drag and drop' activity linking items to 'solid, liquid or gas'. |
Solids and Liquids Quiz A 10 question interactive quiz marked online. |
Solids & Liquids Animations A series of excellent demonstration animations explaining the properties of solids and liquids. |
Solids and Liquids Activity A drag and drop activity sorting materials into lowest to highest melting points. |
Solids & Liquids Quiz A drag and drop quiz where learners drag the correct answers into the appropriate boxes. |
Solids and Liquids Revision A series of screens covering all aspects of this part of the curriculum. |
Solids and Liquids An animation with a number of tasks to perform. Heating various items like ice, aluminium and butter, shaking them and then cooling them. Re-shaking them, is there any change? Finally, a simple quiz to test the understanding of the concept learned. |
Solid Liquid and Gas Quiz A 9 question quiz testing the understanding of a solid, liquid or gas. |
States of Matter As learners click on each button solid, liquid and gas a visual and written explanation is given as to how the particles within are moving. |
