A series of demonstration, practice, extension and testing activities on aspects of safety on the roads including walking to school, being seen at night, seatbelts, road signs, Green Cross Code, hazards on the road and safety on a bike.

A journey to the school
A simple message for very young learners that you don't go out without an adult, you hold on to them at all times until you are in the schoolyard.
Be Seen 1
A simple site explaining the importance of being seen in the dark by wearing fluorescent and reflective clothing. Young learners have to 'dress' the characters appropriately.

Build a bike
An excellent interactive site which allows learners to 'build their own bike' by a simple 'drag and drop' activity. The bike is not completed unless all the parts are in the correct place.

Accident Statistics Quiz
A quiz for more able learners where the answers have to be obtained from reading statistics.
Be safe all year round
A simple site which gets learners to understand the dangers of each of the seasons by placing text of these dangers to the appropriate season.

A series of excellent colourful slides with tips on safety about being seen.
Crossing the road safely
An excellent activity on the 'Green Cross Code'. The activity is a 9 piece jigsaw which covers a  picture. As learners complete the 9 question quiz parts of the picture are revealed. When complete an animation reiterates all the young learners should know.

A simple wordsearch activity using words that young learners should be familiar with.
Crash
An short but excellent interactive site which shows the effects of wearing and not wearing a seat belt when a car hits a wall at 20, 30 and 40mph. Although it is only a cartoon creation with the sound and imagery the reaction of learners could be dramatic
Colourful Cars
 A simple game of matching car design cards. A game of memory and concentration.
Design a Poster
An excellent format as learners have to choose a headline, type and colour of font, input text and select a picture to go with their text. A simple but effective way of getting young learners to put some thoughts about reflective clothing on screen.

Crash Test Dummies
A visual explanation of how crash test dummies help with car safety.
Crossing Catastrophe
A simple jigsaw type activity for younger learners who have to recreate the photographs of four 'lollipop people'.
Find the Hidden Message
An excellent word activity consisting of 11 clues. The first letter of each answer give a specific road safety message. This uses an acrostic format to a specific topic.

A simple wordsearch activity involving words about cycling road safety.

A simple activity which would serve as a means of checking whether learners had grasped the concept of where it is best to cross the road.

Bus Musts
An excellent 'magnetic word' game. Learners are given a set of words from which they have to create 4 sentences concerning the rules of bus travel. NB The word ALWAYS is the title.

A quiz for more able learners where the answers have to be obtained from reading statistics.

I Spy Car Journey
The concept for this interactive activity is excellent. Getting a young learner to concentrate on the buildings, trees, road signs and pedestrian crossings they may encounter as if they were driving a car is brilliant.

An excellent 'magnetic word' game. Learners are given a set of words from which they have to create 4 sentences concerning the rules of bus travel. NB The word NEVER is the title.
How Bright are you?
A series of 16 questions, the answers of which give you the first letter of a road safety phrase.
Name That Sound
Another excellent activity linking safety with spelling. An activity in which the learner gets to hear a sound associated with road safety and then has to spell the word or words the sound depicts. A clever activity involving listening skills.
In Car Safety
A series of excellent colourful slides with tips on in car safety.
Safer Routes
A simple activity which links road safety with maths co-ordinates. The learner has to simply follow the grid references by clicking on the correct arrows guiding the cyclist to school via a safer route. The next part is to type in the return grid reference.
How Road-wise are you?
A series of 10 questions about road safety. A score is given at the conclusion of all the questions.
Protect Your Head
An excellent activity which links road safety with spelling. There are 12 spelling mistakes in the passage that learners have to identify and correct.
Know Your Bike
A simple activity of 'dragging and dropping' the various part names onto a bike. Learners have to take care as some of the positioning has got to be quite precise.

Seatbelt Word Game
Another simple activity which links spelling with safety. Learners have to see how many 3, 4, 5, 6 letters and over they can make from the word SEATBELT.

A series of 9 questions about road signs. A score is given at the conclusion of all the questions.

A series of tips about basic cycling safety on the road.

A series of excellent colourful slides with tips on road safety.
On Your Bike
Another excellent interactive bike safety activity. There are 7 repairs need to be done to the bike before its safe to use. Learners have to identify the repairs and correct them from the options given. May only suit more able learners.
Parts of a bike wordsearch
A simple interactive wordsearch completed on screen. Would aid spelling and link with other 'bike word' activities.
Safer Routes to School
An excellent activity in which learners have to 'drag and drop'  a variety of crossing options into the picture. Be warned some of them are very 'position specific'.  I tried to put one where it should go but it wouldn't because I was two centimetres off.
Ready for the Road
A simple interactive activity in which young learners choose 4 characters in turn and give them a helmet and reflective strips.
Which Restraint?
A simple but excellent interactive activity which informs learners about the need for different types of restraint for different size and weight of passenger. Learners have to weigh and then choose the correct restraint for each of the various passengers.

Stop, Look, Listen, Live
An excellent site which sadly cannot be split into individual activities except from the home page. Covers all aspects of road safety on foot, on wheels and on the road. Each section has a number of sub-sections which are broken down into smaller parts.
Reflective Helps
An excellent activity where learners have to identify where there are 11 reflective objects in the picture. The picture is set in the daytime but when the button is pressed in the bottom left hand corner of the screen the picture is transformed into night
  Pedestrian Wordsearch
A simple wordsearch activity involving words about pedestrian road safety.
The Balloons
An interactive site for younger learners. When clicked on each balloon has an important rule about road safety.

A simple game of matching road sign cards. A game of memory and concentration.

WordWheel
Another activity linking safety with spelling. An activity in which clues are given to the word required to be spelled from the letter given. There are 3 rounds and the words get longer and harder.
Safer Crossing Places
The learner 'controls' the character Roxy to cross a road at a zebra crossing. By clicking different letter keys Roxy walks, waits, turns, looks and listens. The correct combination allows Roxy to cross the road and on to the pelican crossing.

A series of tips about basic cycling safety before setting off.

An activity in which learners have to spot the 7 mistakes (bike safety hazards) that are shown in the picture. As they 'double click' on the hazard it 'corrects itself'. A simple but excellent short activity which makes its point.

Matching Pairs Road Signs
Learners match the pairs of hidden road signs.
Word Scramble
Learners have to drag and drop the letters in the grid to make up a word that has a connection with road safety. There is a picture clue.
 
Stop Look Listen Live Game
To enter the site, click the button to "create a new hog", then give your hedgehog a name.  This site encourages children to think about road safety, and has sections for when they are on foot, on wheels and in the car, with lots of games and quizzes.
Lucy Goes to School
Learners have to say whether two cards have matching pictures. When they do they become parts of the message - stop, hold hands, listen and think before you cross the road.
Town and Country Hazards
Learners have to identify the 3 main hazards shown in the picture and click on their number listed down the right hand side.
